The Instructors
The tutors at Best SAT are smart, encouraging, patient, effective educators. They know standardized tests inside and out, and are top scorers themselves. They enjoy working with young adults, and appreciate the hard work high school students do to prepare to become college students. They understand that each student is unique, and tailor lessons to work with their student's personal learning style. Best SAT instructors excel at helping students earn score improvements that exceed the national average.
Best SAT instructors help students study for the SSAT, PSAT, SAT, SAT Subject Exams, ACT, Praxis and GRE. They use the most student-friendly materials, and teach using a scaffolding approach. They believe that skills are built sequentially, and that a solid grasp of the basics is necessary for long term success.
Best SAT instructors care about the future of their students and their community. The company proudly donates scholarship tutorial packages each year to local students in the Greater Portland area.
Ashley attended Waynflete School, and earned her bachelors from UMass-Amherst in Social Thought and Political Economy. She graduated Summa Cum Laude and is a Phi Beta Kappa.
Ashley began preparing students for standardized tests in 2000, and as the tutoring director provides support to the instructors. She teaches GRE, SSAT, PSAT, SAT, ACT, and SAT subject tests.
Stephen attended Orono High School, and earned his bachelors from UMaine-Farmington in education.
Steve currently teaches at the East End Community School in Portland. He also teaches mathematics for Southern Maine Community College as an adjunct faculty member.
Steve began preparing students for standardized tests in 2003. He teaches PSAT, SAT, ACT, and Praxis. Steve also offers private tutoring in College Essay Writing.
Jacob attended General McLane High School, and earned his bachelors of fine arts from Savannah College of Art and Design in Film and Television. He earned an outstanding achievement award in the liberal arts, and graduated cum laude. Jacob is currently enrolled in a master's program at the University of Southern California.
Jacob is a writer. He has been published in EDGE, The Escapist, Game Developer, and WIRED.
Jacob began prepping students for standardized tests in 2007, and has been with Best SAT since 2009. He teaches PSAT, SAT and ACT prep.
Alison attended Maynard High School, and earned her bachelors of science from UMass-Amherst in Biology where she graduated cum laude.
Alison has worked in genetics research, and is currently working in psychological testing.
She began preparing students for standardized tests with Best SAT in 2009. She teaches PSAT, SAT, ACT, SAT Subject Test in math I and IIC, and chemistry.
Alison is currently on sabbatical to attend Boston College's prestigious M.Ed. program. She earned a full scholarship from the National Science Foundation.
Hilary was a National Merit Scholar and attended Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX. She earned a bachelors degree in Psychology, graduating Magna Cum Laude.
Hilary taught middle school math and science for eight years in private schools in Dallas and Colorado. She is a member of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics. She is currently enrolled in the nursing program at the University of Southern Maine.
Hilary began preparing students for standardized tests in 1998, and joined Best SAT in 2011. She teaches PSAT, SAT, ACT, and SSAT.
Ben was home schooled until attending Bates College. He earned a bachelors in Music Composition, and minored in German. He graduated cum laude.
Ben joined Best SAT in 2011. He teaches PSAT and SAT, as well as Math IC, German and French SAT subject tests.
